Mission News

An RCA Update has been posted on the Mission bulletin board.  There are interesting paragraphs about Food Pantries, Progress in Haiti, Goats and Germs in Kenya and "Giving Disaster Relief a Face" about the Hawley's.  In Cedar Rapids, we worked under the direction of the Hawley's and grew very fond of them.

Save the Date

The annual Ginger Creek "Christmas Tea" will be held on Saturday, December 11 at Drury Lane.

Saluting the American Flag - Benefit Concert

September 25, 2010, 3 pm
DGCC

The ADK Studios faculty will perform selections of both patriotic and classical music to honor Operation Welcome You Home in the Saluting the American Flag - Benefit Concert.  The concert will honor our military, active and veterans who have sacrificed so much for our country.  Please join us!  Tickets are FREE to the public.  Donations will be accepted to benefit Operation Welcome You Home.

Musical selections will include Bach Prelude for Cello from the G Major Suite and Aaron Copland's set of Old American Songs, as well as patriotic standards including Stars and Stripes Forever, God Bless America and a salute to the different branches of the Armed Forces.  The concert will feature students as well as the faculty including Abigail Demirgian (Piano), JoEllyn Caulfield and Michael Thoms (Vocal), Jim Perona (Guitar) and Charlotte Muir (Cello).

ADK Studios is a music conservatory where teachers, students and professional musicians work and perform together.  The students work to attain the ability to grow as artists and individuals who can express themselves through music.  The music studios educate students regarding music's intrinsic value as part of the human experience and its central role in the human culture.  We encourage one another in personal growth and provide and nurture a musical life for the community.

ADK Studios offers affordable weekly lessons from teachers who are highly qualified with degrees in music.  Please contact Conservatory Director Abigail Demirgian for registration/information at 630.886.9968 or visit www.adkstudio.com.

Mission Team Update

THANK YOU!

Thank you to all of the baby care kit packers.  We have 20 kits on their way to Church World Service in anticipation of the next disaster.  Church World Service keeps warehouses stocked and ready for distribution in several areas of the world.  Who knows where our baby kits will go?  Maybe China, South America, Middle East, Africa or a poor area in Europe.

FISH Food Pantry

FISH continues to address needs of persons in our community through food bags, financial assistance and transportation needs.  According to a recent article in The Sun, the poverty level in this county has risen by 47% in the last year.  FISH is grateful for all donations.  Please continue to place items in the blue FISH container by the mailboxes.

Current needs are:

  • toilet tissue

  • canned fruits

  • canned vegetables

  • toothbrushes

  • toothpaste

A suggestion would be to bring a food item and place it in the bin each time you gather your mail!

Also, if anyone is available to make donations to the pantry that would be a big help.  The Pantry receives donations on Monday and Friday, 8:15 - 11:30 am.  They are located at 4340 Prince St., Downers Grove, right behind North High School.

For additional information, contact Beth Smith.

FISH Pantry Board meeting is the 3rd Tuesday of each month.
